Thanks everyone. Both of these solutions appear to work:
<a href="javascript:history.go(-1)">
<a href="#" onClick="history.go(-1); return false;">
This is the second time I've been pointed toward designating a javascript
INSIDE the href. I had never seen this before, but it works. Question is:
it looks so non-standard, will it continue to work?
